The son of a man of modest means, a young Christopher Chance's father was marked for death by a loan shark, which he was unable to pay.
Attempting to save his father's life by blocking the assassin's bullet with his own body, Chance was swatted aside and the assassin completed his mission. The killer fled when the police approached and Chance's father in his dying words made his son promise that he would become the success he never was.
After training for years in the art of disguise and hand-to-hand and armed combat he became a bodyguard, stepping into the shoes of those marked for murder as a Human Target.
