The daughter of New York City mafia lord Guido Bertinelli, Helena grew up in a dangerous environment, having even been kidnapped once, she became hardened to the world, learning to depend on herself.

When a rival gang wiped out her entire family, she knew she had to strike a balance against injustice. Having trained in a variety of physical and mental disciplines, she was well equipped to adapt to her new lifestyle. Donning the cloak of the Huntress, she established a reputation, first in New York, and later Gotham City.

Showing her devotion to fighting crime, by day she attempts to prevent young people from taking on a life of crime as a caring teacher at Gotham Heights High School, while at night patrolling the city as the Huntress.
