Origin

A legacy which goes back to the French Revolution, women known as Mademoiselle Marie have defended the power structure of France. One of the most famous was a young woman from the countryside of France. Wearing a red beret she fought against the Nazis during World War II.

Following World War II, Mademoiselle Marie became a codename awarded to agents of the French intelligence agency, Directorate-General for External Security. It was in her capacity as an agent of Checkmate that Josephine Tautin carries on the legacy of Mademoiselle Marie.
