Rocketed to Earth from the remains of the domed Kryptonian city, Argo, teen-aged Kara Zor-El was the sole survivor of a city that should have died when the planet met its demise.

Arriving on Earth the young girl was united with the cousin she had never met, Superman, because he had been sent to Earth as an infant, before she was born.

Superman placed his young cousin in an orphanage in Midvale, where she took the disguise of Linda Lee. While in the orphanage the future hero and her cousin would train in the use of her powers, but she often went out on her own to learn from her mistakes as Supergirl.
