Note: With the success of the Masters of the Universe toy line and animated series, manufacturer Mattel sought to capitalize by marketing similar toys to girls. Produced by Filmation, He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword was released to theaters in March, 1985. The feature film was later divided into five episodes which introduced the animated television series She-Ra: Princess of Power later that year. The television series lasted for two years and produced 93 episodes.

She-Ra's featured comics appearances were limited to 12 mini-comics bundled with the toys and a quarterly magazine published for six issues.

Origin

As a child Princess Adora was abducted from her home kingdom of Eternia by the sorcerer warrior Hordak; who fled into another dimension before Adora could be rescued. When Adora became an adult a spell was cast upon her to ensure her loyalty as a force commander of the Evil Horde.

Occupying the planet Etheria, Hordak's troops were opposed by local rebels, but mostly went unchallenged in their conquest until the arrival of a stranger - He-Man. Tasked by the Sorceress to deliver the Sword of Protection to his long-lost twin sister, He-Man came into conflict with the Evil Horde and Force Commander Adora. Capturing He-Man, Adora felt a strange pull by the Sword of Protection and upon taking it in her hand she was instructed by the Sorceress to call out "For the honor of Greyskull!" - transforming her into She-Ra the Princess of Power.
