With the establishment in the capital city of Edo of the Tokugawa shogunate in the early 17th Century, Japan entered a time of peace after a long civil war between feudal powers. The unfortunate side effect of this peace was the fate of the warrior class known as the Samurai. Now unemployed many samurai turned to banditry as a means of financial gain, but others turned to more legal means becoming bodyguards known as the Yojimbo. One such ronin samurai chose a path of a warrior pilgrimage to further his skills and obtain honor as the rabbit bodyguard - Usagi Yojimbo.
