The son of a wealthy land owner in California during the rule of the Spanish Empire, Don Diego de la Vega returned from studies in Spain to find Los Angeles under the rule of the cruel Captain Monastario. Realizing that he can not overtly defeat the tyranny of Monastario, de la Vega adopts the identity of a darkly clad avenger who fights of the poor as Zorro.
