Born on the frontier of Texas, Morris Masters mother died in childbirth. Masters father, who exiled himself from a patrician New York family with criminal secrets, raised the boy on his own until the outlaw Luke Davis killed him for his land. Masters drifted as a wild hand from ranch to ranch constantly perfecting his gun skills in hopes of vengeance.
Assuming the name Cactus Kid, Masters outlaw reputation made him a wanted man across the Texas frontier. Riding into Jefferson County, Masters tracked down Davis and his gang of outlaws - when the smoke cleared only the Cactus Kid was left standing. Taken into custody, the gunfighter was reprieved by the judge who convinced of his remorse gave him a chance at redemption. Graduating from the Universidad of Mexico the former outlaw assumed the identify of Matthew Masters M.D.
When a patient was gunned down before him and other witnesses, Masters refused to take-up arms and was branded a coward. Unwilling to let evil go unpunished he assumed the masked identity of the Black Rider.
