Experiencing painfully labor and about to give birth a poor woman's friends called for a doctor. Instead, the vampire Deacon Frost arrived, posing as a doctor. Frost bit the expecting mother, whose screams alerted her friends. Frost fled when they rushed into the room.
The young mother died after giving birth, and the boy was raised by her friends. Determined at an early age to avenge his mother's death, he resolved to eradicate the menace of vampirism becoming the vampire hunter known only as Blade.
