Professor Jeff Jordan was experimenting on a series of chemicals that would increase the strength of a normal human by a factor of twelve. After classes were dismissed, one of Jordan's students, Tim Mulrooney, who was serving class detention, accidentally knocked over a rack of test tubes. The resulting fumes from the chemical mixture rendered Jordan unconscious, and only because Mulrooney opened a window to vent the fumes was he and Jordan saved from possible death.
Later, the duo found that the fumes had altered their bodies giving them superhuman strength. Dedicating himself to the battle against the forces of fascism Dr. Jordan became Captain Wonder.
