Li Park's father wanted him and his younger brother to grow to be warriors, not the artist that Li wanted to be. When a plague devastated the mystic city of Ku'n-Lun the only student from the School of Thunder capable of challenging the dragon Shou-Lao was a six-year-old Li Park.
Entering the dragon's cave, Li was almost killed. Aware that he could not challenge the dragon physically Li lured Shou-Lao close. Seizing Shou-Lao about the neck and pressing his body against the dragon's scar, the only way to block the lifeforce it receives from Shou-Lao's disembodied heart, Li transferred the scar to his own chest. Plunging his hands into a cauldron containing Shou-Lao's molten heart his hands became hardened and Li became the Iron Fist.
