The lighthouse where the experiments were being conducted was struck by lightening discharging a massive amount of electricity into Joyce. When she awoke from a coma, she found that her mutant power of levitation had been activated. Donning a patriotic motif, Joyce joined her nations battle against tyranny in Europe, as Miss America.
