Real estate agent Arthur Douglas (Drax the Destroyer), his wife Yvette, and daughter Heather were driving across the Mojave Desert from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when they spotted the spaceship of Thanos, who was surveying the Earth for conquest. Desiring to keep his presence a secret Thanos destroyed Douglas' car and left the family for dead.
Unknown to Thanos his activities were being monitored by his father and leader of the Eternals, Mentor. The leader of the Eternals of Titan investigated the wreckage and found that Heather Douglas yet lived. Mentor sent the girl to be raised on Titan by the monks of Shao-Lom, where intense training enabled her to achieve the peak of human physical and mental perfection enabling master of the martial arts and a powerful telepathy. Using her vast mental powers Douglas was able to contact the malevolent entity known as the "Dragon of the Moon." Exerting influence over Douglas the entity directs her to commit acts of evil. Eventually driving the entity from her mind, Douglas assumes the mantle of the Moondragon.
