Orphaned and homeless, Harley Davis soon joined a street gang living in the East End of London. A reputation for using extremely foul language, earned her the nickname of Motormouth from her fellow gang members.
When Davis was 17, she gained the notice of the international criminal cartel known as MyS-Tech; which had recently stolen technology known as M.O.P.E.D (Mind Operated PErsonal Dematerialization), which allowed individuals with specific brainwave patterns to travel through time, space and dimensions in an instant. Previous attempts to utilize the M.O.P.E.D. technology proved fatal to the test subjects and destructive to the technology. Desperate for positive results the head of the project sought out any individual that might prove capable of controlling the technology. Detecting Davis' brainwave patterns as having potential for success, the head of the project had the M.O.P.E.D. technology integrated into a pair of athletic shoes and left in an alley where Davis found them. One of MyS-Tech's Techno Wizards was outraged when discovering such a haphazard and desperate plan was being attempted and executes the director of the program. The project director's subordinates also marked for death and desperate to show that their decision was correct, activated the M.O.P.E.D. shoes, sending Davis on a random jump to another dimension.
Subjected to will of MyS-Tech agents, eventually Davis was able to free herself of their influence, and allied with the genetic chimera Killpower. It was during an adventure with Killpower that Davis was mortally wounded with a bullet in the throat. Though the intervention of Killpower, Davis was mended by integrating cybernetic technology into her throat, making her a true Motormouth.
