A law enforcement agent from the planet Xandar, Nova Prime Rhomann Dey was mortally wounded by the space-monster Zorr while attempting to halt the creature from destroying the Earth.


Near death, Dey transferred his superhuman powers to high school student Richard Rider. Discovering his new abilities Rider repelled Zorr's invasion and continued a fight against both Earthly and intergalactic injustice as Nova.
