The refugees of countless alien worlds devoured by the insatiable Galactus now take refuge upon planets cloaked from planet devourer's senses. The cloaking technology's inventor, Zius, discovers that there is one being in the universe capable of nullifying his cloaking technology, Susan Storm the Invisible Woman, and if Galactus were to learn this secret these planets would face certain doom.

His wife facing execution so that billions would live, Reed Richards initiates a gambit to save her life by purging the Invisible Woman's powers - or so he lead Zius to believe. In fact Richards could not eliminate the cosmic radiation from his wife's cellular structure, but instead he redirected her unique radiation into her brother Johnny and swapped their abilities - giving him the power of invisibility and the unique perception Galactus would crave.

Coincidentally the world devourer arrived moments after the siblings' transfer of powers. Using his ability to grant the Power Cosmic, Galactus transformed Johnny Storm into an unwilling herald capable of piercing the vale of Zius' cloaking devices as his Perceptor.
