Before discovering the formula that transformed him into Mr. Hyde, Dr. Calvin Zabo experimented with his own body causing unknown mutations. Zabo frequently sought the services of a prostitute with unknown Inhuman lineage named Kim Johnson, who became pregnant with a girl that she surrendered for adoption. The child was adopted by the Sutters and named Cory, and lived with no knowledge of her parentage.
As a teenager, Sutter's abilities manifest and she was taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and offered membership into the espionage agency as a special agent working directly under Directory Nick Fury. Fury reveals Sutter's true parentage and her birth name, Daisy Johnson.
Johnson is trained in the use of her abilities and becomes an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., adopting the codename Quake.
