A champion Olympic swimmer, Todd Arliss injured his spine and legs when he leapt from his private ship to rescue a man who had fallen overboard. Desperate to regain his mobility, Arliss sought medical help from the criminal marine biologist Dr. Lemuel Dorcus. Dr. Dorcus used his "morphotron" to imprint the genetic attributes of a tiger shark as well as the recently captured Sub-Mariner onto Arliss, transforming him into the aquatic marauder known as the Tiger Shark.
